ON THE WAY: New Single PLAY AROUNd

Phew. 2020 was a YEAR. I don’t know about your story (or maybe I do?) but I have books to fill with the amount of unpredictability that entered into my life. Just when I thought I had everything figured out coming into the year, all of it was tossed aside. But hey, to be real, I needed it in a weird way. It gave me time to make mistakes, to look introspectively, take some personal inventory and focus on mental health. The thing I find interesting is that everyone I talk to, 2020 was a year of personal revelation. The things we all tried to hide and shove deep down in us came up to the surface with a strong buoy (let’s read this word as “boo-ey” not “boi” hahah).

I wrote the most songs in 2020 that I’m slightly more proud of compared to everything else I’ve written. I’ve shelled out a bit more of myself into these songs, took a little lyrical freedom to say what I wanted instead of what I felt like the genre of music wanted. Does that make sense? It’s like sometimes, a chimy guitar can make you cheapen words for some reason and words with more than 2 syllables seem like archaic hieroglyphics. Well, in Play Around, I wanted to have a little more fun.

The starting chorus stanza is, “We can play around with our demons, cuz we got oh so many reasons to turn a blind eye to blue skies and dreamy feelings, daze out on blue screens and empty ceilings.” Sometimes when you’re doing life with others, you can find yourself in a place with no boundaries and a series of conversations that seem one-sided due to resentment or bitterness of some sort. What’s worse is that sometimes you can be in a place where it’s not addressed and so you stay busy to ignore the problem (like stare at your phone).

So this song is a precious one to me, a personal one. I hope you can headbang so hard to this one that you have a slight case of a happy whiplash.

You can pre-save the song on the home page or you can go to my insta: @caleb_blair and do the whole link in bio thing. See you soon! :). - CB
